In Wellington we were treated to great food, great drinks, and fantastic exhibits for two days. A big draw for us was the Weta Workshops tour, where we got to see exquisite props like a tommy gun from King Kong and the shards of the sword Narsil from the Lord of the Rings trilogy. Unfortunately, copyright restrictions prevented us from taking any photos on the tour itself.
Our next stop was Te Papa Tongarewa, the National Museum of New Zealand. Te Papa floored us with its five floors of immersive exhibits, the most stunning of which was “Gallipoli: The Scale of Our War”. Weta Workshops contributed to the exhibit, skillfully crafting incredibly life-like 2.4:1 scale models of WWI heroes. Our Weta Workshops tour guide, Liam, told us that Weta considers these models to be their proudest work, and they were amazing to behold - we were half-expecting them to blink!
We took some time to explore the town at night, and we came across an American-themed bar called the “Dakota” that was hosting trivia night. Ha!
