Following our tour of Hobbiton, we continued on to beautiful Lake Taupo, located in the center of the island. Unlike our previous nights of freedom camping in various car parks, we spent our night in Taupo at a holiday park. The campground included a communal kitchen where we made conversation with a New Zealander in the area to do forestry work.
The next morning, we chartered a boat, the Stratus, and spent the day trout fishing with Captain Marty. We caught five rainbow trout, including one which we brought to the Crafty Trout Brewery to be cooked up for dinner. We stopped by the dam, the local history museum, and by Huka waterfalls!
